About Café Don Benjie

Nestled in the heart of Panama's renowned coffee-growing region, Café Don Benjie is a 33-hectare coffee estate located in the stunning Bajo Mono Canyon, just north of Boquete, in the highlands of Chiriquí. Situated on the slopes of the majestic Barú Volcano, the farm is blessed with ideal growing conditions, ranging from 1,400 to 1,550 meters above sea level.

The plantation lies alongside the crystal-clear waters of the Caldera River, benefiting from the rich volcanic soil, pure spring water, and the famous local mist known as Bajareque, which together create the perfect microclimate for growing exceptional specialty coffee.

A Rich History

Café Don Benjie’s roots date back to 1914, when the de Dianous family first arrived in Boquete. Gabriel de Dianous, a pioneer in the coffee industry, purchased his first coffee farm in the Bajo Mono region, laying the foundation for a family legacy in the coffee business that continues today.

The farm has changed ownership over the years, with notable stewards including Mrs. Archer, an early American pioneer in Boquete, and Dr. Renan Esquivel, a prominent Panamanian pediatrician. Dr. Esquivel, a nature enthusiast, made significant contributions to the farm, planting exotic trees, plants, and various coffee varietals, many of which are still preserved today.

Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

In 2011, José Benjamin de Dianous G. and Stefan Arwed Müller took the reins of the farm with a deep commitment to quality and environmental sustainability. Their vision is to preserve the farm’s heritage while producing some of the best coffees in Panama. Through careful cultivation, innovation, and respect for the land, Café Don Benjie continues to thrive, producing coffees that reflect the unique terroir of the Bajo Mono region.

A Tribute to Mr. Benjamin de Dianous Henriquez

The brand name, Café Don Benjie, honors Mr. Benjamin de Dianous Henriquez, known affectionately in Boquete as Don Benjie. A lifelong coffee enthusiast and an influential figure in the Boquete coffee community, Don Benjie has made lasting contributions to the town’s coffee industry. His dedication to the craft and the region is a source of inspiration for us, and we proudly carry forward his legacy.
